No matter what your business is, or who you’re trying to sell to, a good designer is key to catching that consumer’s eye. Every single company has had someone do some sort of design work for them, because it’s everywhere you look! Logos, websites, ads, apparel– it’s hard to avoid the world of constantly battling for your consumer’s attention through visually appealing media. Even though everyone needs a designer, not everyone knows exactly how the process works from the behind-the-scenes point of view. I’ve created a simple infographic to demonstrate the main 5 steps of graphic design work (or really any design).
When all is said and done, a design project can last anywhere from a couple hours to a couple months. The complexity of each project is completely variable, and the amount of times that you have to repeat a step in order to perfect the artwork is endless. As a graphic designer, you have to be prepared to create a million drafts and do it with a smile on your face. Yes, it’s frustrating to change that tiny shape to yellow, then green, then blue, then back to yellow, before having a satisfied customer– but that’s the job!
Bottom line is: Everyone has a different opinion on what’s visually appealing, and it is truly an amazing feeling to end up with a beautiful design that not only you are proud of, but your customer is proud of as well.
